Who is Prof. Dr. Cenk Acar?

Prof. Dr. Cenk Acar is a urologist specializing in urologic oncology, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, prostate disease and the surgical treatment of urolithiasis. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ankara University and completed his urology specialization at Gazi University. He trained in robotic and laparoscopic surgery for urological tumors at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (AVL) in Amsterdam. He currently heads the Department of Urology at the Faculty of Medicine of Atlas University and practices clinically at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental in Istanbul.

Uro-Oncology and Robotic Surgery

Professor Cenk Acar specializes in the surgical treatment of tumors of the genitourinary system — prostate, kidney, bladder, adrenal gland and testicle. Priority is given to robotic (da Vinci) and laparoscopic surgery — minimally invasive methods with less trauma, faster recovery and high oncological precision.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is one of the professor's main areas of practice. Robotic radical prostatectomy is used for surgical treatment.

Robotic radical prostatectomy (da Vinci) is performed through several small incisions instead of one large incision. The surgeon controls the robot's movements with high-precision 3D visualization, allowing more careful work near the nerve bundles and urinary sphincter. This can contribute to faster recovery and less blood loss compared to open surgery.

Kidney Cancer

Kidney tumors can be treated with organ preservation. Robotic and laparoscopic surgery are used for both partial and total kidney removal.

Depending on the size and location of the tumor, robotic or laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (preserving the healthy part of the kidney) or radical nephrectomy is performed. The minimally invasive approach reduces surgical trauma and generally shortens hospital stay.

Bladder Cancer

For bladder cancer requiring organ removal, robotic radical cystectomy with urinary reservoir reconstruction is used.

Robotic radical cystectomy is a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. The operation involves removing the bladder and, if necessary, creating a new pathway for urinary diversion. The specific reconstruction method is discussed individually.

Adrenal Tumors

Adrenal tumors are in most cases removed laparoscopically — through several small incisions, without a large incision.

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is the standard for benign and most malignant adrenal tumors. The minimally invasive approach reduces blood loss and pain, speeding up postoperative recovery compared to open surgery.

Testicular Cancer

If a testicular tumor is suspected, the primary treatment is surgical removal — orchiectomy, followed by determination of further management.

Radical inguinal orchiectomy is the standard first operation for testicular tumors: the affected testicle is removed through an inguinal approach. Based on the histological results, it is determined whether further observation or additional treatment is required.

The professor's areas of practice also include benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — benign enlargement of the prostate.
